It’s an ancient shepherd’s settlement from the 16th Cent. Immigrants from the mainland tended to the flocks of the Hvar patricians here. Also, noblemen from Hvar spent heir summers here, due to fresh air and relatively high altitude. Brusje was especially noted for the production of lime, honey, oil, wine and gathering aromatic medicinal herbs, especially lavender.
